NeuroBalance CR

About Us

Hi, I’m Raquel, the founder of Neuro Balance. I’ve been a bodyworker for the last 16 years, and in the past four years, my husband Josh and I discovered the transformative power of Specialized Kinesiology. Together, we have embarked on an incredible journey of healing—for ourselves and for our clients.

As a bodyworker, my primary focus has been helping individuals recover from physical trauma, accidents, and injuries that affect mobility and cause pain. I achieved this through deep structural bodywork, particularly Koontz Therapy, an incredible modality. While most of my clients experienced life-changing results, there were a few who did not fully recover. This led me to question why—I knew there was more to it, I was missing a piece of the puzzle. Especially because I was one of those people.

Some back story: I experienced severe trauma as a child, which led to self-destructive behaviors during my teenage years. I found peace in sports like snowboarding and horseback riding, but not like normal people, I was always pushing the limits. Physical pain was easier to process than the emotional turmoil I was experiencing. Over the years, I suffered multiple severe injuries, including a broken neck from skateboarding, a severe head injury and dislocated hip from snowboarding, herniated discs, torn ligaments in my neck, broken ribs, and a significant pelvic injury from bronc riding in a rodeo. I also endured numerous car accidents and concussions. These injuries left me with chronic neck pain, vertigo, migraines, numbness in my arms, and other persistent issues.

Thanks to my mother, a bodyworker (founder of the koontzin technique) and an incredible chiropractor (Joan Burrows), I managed to live a relatively normal life, but never fully recovered—until I discovered N.O.T. (Neural Organization Technique) and specialized kinesiology. This was the missing piece I had been searching for.

After receiving an N.O.T. session from Dr. Sheel Tangri, I realized I had found what I was looking for and knew I needed to learn more. This discovery led Josh and me down a path of deep healing and transformation. Since then, we have continued studying various specialized kinesiology techniques with Alexis Costello, founder of the Gems Collage of Kinesiology and eventually we had the privilege to learn N.O.T. From Dr. Tangri himself, thus, NeuroBalance was born.

What We Do

At Neuro Balance, we are committed to providing holistic therapy that integrates specialized kinesiology techniques and structural bodywork to help our clients achieve balance—structurally, emotionally, and biochemically.

Throughout most of my career, my focus has been on helping individuals who have suffered from physical trauma, accidents, or injuries. However, when viewed holistically, these issues are rarely isolated. Many clients with chronic pain also experience digestive problems, stress, sleep difficulties, ext… The common thread? An imbalanced nervous system. Focusing solely on pain can be limiting, but when we view the body as a whole, we see the bigger picture.
One of the key insights we’ve gained on this journey is the profound impact of the mind-body connection and the emotional aspects behind chronic pain and physical limitations. A truth that changed my life is that pain does not always equal damage; it’s not a definitive indicator of an injury’s severity. Pain is information. It’s often a sign of blocked energy, hidden emotional pain, past trauma, or belief systems that hinder healing.

When evaluating a client’s symptoms, we avoid assumptions. Instead, we “ask the body” through muscle testing to identify where stress is held and how to release it. A common misconception in todays society is that if the source of your pain is emotional, then it’s “all in your head” or somehow less valid or less real. That couldn’t be further from the truth—pain is pain, regardless of its cause. The key is identifying the stress causing it and releasing it from the body. This approach also applies to internal issues such as digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, and food sensitivities, these too are often signs of a greater imbalance in the body’s central nervous system and can also be corrected.

How We Do It

Magic! Just kidding, we combine various techniques, including N.O.T. (Neural Organization Technique), SIPS (Stress Indicator Point System), Psych-K, Touch for Health, Koontz Therapy, and deep fascia work, to address both physical and emotional blockages hindering the body from healing. Every session is unique, and the methods we use depend on the individual’s needs. We conduct a physical evaluation, note the symptoms, and let the body guide the session.

It sounds like voodoo I know, but I promise its completely scientific and nothing out of this world. We use biofeedback (muscle testing) to monitor subtle responses from the nervous system that help us communicate with the biocomputer to see how the system is doing, what systems need reset, where the stress is blocked much like an electrician can monitor electrical impulses to test different circuits in a house, we can do the same with the body.

Everything is energy and that is all there is to it.” – Einstein

Working with Animals

I’m also passionate about working with animals—I have three dogs and two horses. As I learned to heal myself, I realized my animals needed healing too. I studied specialized bodywork techniques for animals, learning to address their unique structures. However, animals, like us, are complex beings; their nervous systems operate similarly to ours, and they can also hold trauma and emotional pain in their bodys. I adapt N.O.T., SIPS, and other specialized kinesiology techniques to work on horses and dogs.

I travel to farms across Costa Rica and the US to work on horses with physical injuries, health limitations, or behavioral issues, helping them achieve balance and become the best version of themselves. As a result, their performance improves significantly, and they live healthier, happier lives.

To further our mission, Josh and I offer a variety of courses, both in-person and online. These courses cater to practitioners who want to expand their skills, individuals looking to improve their health and that of their families, and pet owners dedicated to keeping their animals healthy and happy. For more information, see our courses.
